Kellogg team took 2nd place in the Annual Operations Strategy Case Competition

Congratulations to the Operations Management Club’s Case Competition Team! They took Second Place in the Annual Operations Strategy Case Competition at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business! This competition showcased the best MBA students from 16 of the top MBA programs in the world. Rohit Sood, MMM2006, is in this Kellogg team. (November 2004)

Kellogg team advances to Paris in international competition

The Kellogg team emerged victorious in the fourth edition of L'Oreal's e-Strat marketing-plan challenge, which attracted more than 30,000 entries from 100 countries, the cosmetics company said. Mikio Kawahara, MMM04, joins team at L’Oreal L'Oreal's e-Strat marketing-plan challenge in Paris. (June 2004)

MMM students launch business to increase efficiency of medical practices

The MMM Entrepreneurship Program is supporting the SALARUS team (Farrokh Batliwala (2nd year MMM),Willie Harbert (2nd year MMM), Ian Vacin (2nd year MMM), Fang-Kuey Chang(1st Year MMM)) as they develop a company to provide private practice doctors and clinics with technical services and support to meet their accounting and technology needs while reducing the number of reimbursement denials. The MMMEP program will help them establish the company, create an initial customer base and begin providing healthcare solutions. (April 2004)

The Entrepreneur's Guide to Funding the Acquisition of a Manufacturer

There are a growing number of entrepreneurs that have successfully acquired a manufacturing organization. This panel will examine the funding of these acquisitions and discuss how investors and lenders evaluate such endeavors, as well as the different finance structures of these relatively small deals. The question of what makes the acquisition of a manufacturer unique from other business acquisitions will be addressed.

The panel will be moderated by Professor Steven Rogers, author of The Entrepreneurs Guide to Finance and Business. Panelists included Private Equity professionals who fund smaller acquisitions, as well as a successful entrepreneur who now runs his own manufacturer.

Wally Hopp received the Award for Technical Innovation in Industrial Engineering from the Institute of Industrial Engineers for his contributions to the development and dissemination of factory physics. (April 2005)

Wally Hopp has been invited to deliver the keynote graduation address at INSEAD in Fontainebleau Cedex, France in July 2005. INSEAD is the top-ranked management school outside the US and has a very prestigious PhD program whose graduates are on the faculty of the world's best business schools, including Kellogg. Jane and Bill White have given a most generous gift to establish the Jane S. and William J. White Professorship in Behavioral Sciences. The White professor will be a senior, tenured professor appointed in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences who is distinguished in scholarship, teaching, and research. He or she will be engaged in teaching and research in areas such as organizational behavior, entrepreneurial studies, leadership or general management in both the Master of Management and Manufacturing (MMM) program and the Industrial Engineering/Management Science department. McCormick Professors Mark Daskin, Bob Fourer and Wally Hopp were announced as winners of the INFORMS Fellow Award in September 2004. This award is for outstanding long-term contributions to the fields of Operations Research and Management Sciences. Northwestern was the only university with three winners from a single department. Anne L. Stevens, group vice president, Canada, Mexico, and South America at the Ford Motor Co. was recently inducted to the National Academy of Engineers for leadership in the development and application of creative manufacturing processes, resulting in major improvements in efficiency and product quality and cost savings. News about the MMM Program and the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science

FORD MOTOR COMPANY DONATES $10 MILLION TO NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY FOR NEW ENGINEERING DESIGN CENTER
EVANSTON, Ill. --- Ford Motor Company announced that it has donated $10 million to Northwestern University and the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science for construction of a new engineering design center on the Evanston campus. The announcement was made as part of the festivities of Ford Engineering Week being held May 15 - 19. The donation will create the Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center. The state-of-the-art facility, where engineering students will experience a "culture of design," will include classrooms, shops, design studios, meeting areas and work rooms especially designed for team learning, collaborative projects and computer-assisted learning. The Master of Management and Manufacturing program will move into the design center. The unified MMM space will include a conference room, group meeting rooms, computer and communication equipment and staff offices. In addition, MMM students will have access to the shops and design studios for working on their new product ventures. Occupancy is scheduled for Fall 2004. (May 2001)
